How To Read The Map
Colour scale is based on Opportunity Score in the current view.

How It Works
- Base geography is the official General Practitioner Catchments (GPC 2023) for all of Australia.
- DPA status comes from the official Distribution Priority Area (GPs 2025) dataset.
- Each catchment is linked to SA2 demographic context (median age, income, growth, disadvantage).
- Opportunity score blends official GP shortage signal (DPA) with demographic pressure indicators so users can compare where unmet demand is likely strongest.
How To Use
- Start in All States to identify national hotspots.
- Switch to one state to load detailed polygons and inspect local catchments.
- Toggle the metric selector to stress-test rankings by growth, age, income, or disadvantage.
- Click a point to open full catchment metrics and compare with chart evidence.
Map Legend
- Colour ramp: red = lower values, green = higher values for the selected metric.
- Circle markers: one marker per official GP catchment (larger circles = larger population).
- Shaded polygons: official catchment boundaries for the selected state.
- White ring: currently selected catchment.
Metric Glossary
- DPA: Distribution Priority Area status for GPs (Y = shortage priority area).
- SA2: Statistical Area Level 2, an ABS standard region used for local statistics.
- IRSD: SEIFA Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage.
- Need Index: Weighted percentile mix of age, growth, low-income, and disadvantage pressure.
